At Big Star, our dedication to good food is rivaled only by our commitment to good music. As such, hosting James Beard Award-wining Del Posto pastry chef and acclaimed punk drummer Brooks Headley was a no-brainer. Headley will set up shop on Monday, November 19th at 6:00pm to serve up his legendary veggie burger, and offer samples from his new cookbook “Brooks Headley's Fancy Desserts. To sweeten the deal, Headley will curate the evening’s musical selection…scratchy vinyl is surely in our future.

Preparing dinner alongside acclaimed chef Marcus Samuelsson in his Harlem home is an opportunity few of us will ever experience. However, a cooking demonstration from Samuelsson’s “Marcus Off Duty: The Recipes I Cook at Home” with special guest Paul Kahan is a pretty good approximation.
On Saturday, November 8th at 7:00pm Chef Marcus Samuelsson will join Paul Kahan in Big Star’s newly constructed Commissary Kitchen for a cooking demo and light bites showcasing recipes from "Marcus Off Duty." Menu highlights include Chipotle Chicken Skewers and Steak Fajitas straight off the grill, as well as Fried Snapper Tacos and Ethiopian Tostadas.

The Damen CTA Blue Line stop is closed for construction until mid-December. Here are a few more things to note when heading to Big Star in the next 2 months.
North Avenue will be closed just West of North/Damen/Milwaukee Avenue for 70 days starting Monday October 13th through December 22, 2014. North Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic Sunday - Thursday from 9pm-5am and Friday/Saturday from 9pm - 7am. Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the street. Buses will be rerouted around the street closure.
Damen Avenue will also be closed to vehicular traffic in the overnight hours for a 63 day period from October 20, 2104 - December 22, 2014. The hours of the street closure will be consistent with North Avenue: Sunday -Thursday 9pm-5am and Friday/Saturday 9pm-7am.
